Berkan has a degree in Mining Engineering and a master’s degree in Cement Engineering from Middle East Technical University, and also, he also completed MBA program. His career started in 2007, and after several roles and responsibilities in cement plant operations, he leaded performance and process area as Director in OYAK Cement, and then appointed as COO of CIMPOR in 2022 with a responsibility of operations in Portugal, Cape Verde and Azores. Since the last September, Berkan is leading the global technical operations of CIMPOR Global Holdings as CTO and also the Board Member with a vision and responsibility of operational excellence, decarbonization & sustainability, investment & CAPEX, strategical projects, digital transformation, innovation, performance & benchmarking, quality, alternative resource management and renewables at all of the regions. Some of the projects that he had leaded; World’s first greenfield calcined clay integrated cement plant & DeOHClay concept, first industrial scale calcined clay line with flash calciner concept, IndustrAI Digital Transformation Project – industrial digitalization in cement industry with integration of AI, automated machine learning and advance process control, alternative fuel projects with new concepts on preparation, transport and combustion technologies, new technologies on pyroprocessing, ultra-fine grinding and low-carbon cements, SCMs and other products.
