  • Innovative Sustainability in Cement Manufacturing: A Case Study of Sugar Mud Press as an Alternate Fuel
Worldwide, approximately 5.1 million tons of sugarcane press mud are produced annually, with a minimal portion being used as a natural fertilizer or for soil stabilization. The remaining quantity often finds its way to landfills. In light of this, CarbonZero Global Conference and Exhibition 2023 is excited to announce Power Cement Pakistan‘s topic at the event: “Innovative Sustainability in Cement Manufacturing: A Case Study of Sugar Mud Press as an Alternate Fuel.”

To achieve deep de-carbonization, we need to rethink how we produce and consume energy and operate a radical switch to renewable and low-carbon energy sources.

Climate-friendly cement producer Power Cement Limited is continuously working to overcome global climate challenges by reducing its GHG emissions through the use of renewable energy sources as well as searching for alternative fuels having low Carbon footprint.

During this search, Power Cement team visited many neighboring industries for any chance of using their byproduct/waste product as a valuable fuel. During this journey, Sugar Press Mud was discovered as an alternative fuel. Power Cement Ltd was able to successfully use it as an alternative fuel for the first time in the Cement Industry of Pakistan.

Join CarbonZero Global Conference and Exhibition in Lyon on October 26 and 27 and learn how cross-industry collaboration can be an immediate and viable solution to cement decarbonization.
