  • The Role of Supplementary Cementitious Materials in Sustainable Construction in Morocco

Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) are pivotal in the efforts to decarbonize the construction industry, which is a significant source of carbon emissions globally. In Morocco, the use of SCMs such as fly ash, pozzolan, and slag is increasingly recognized not only for their ability to enhance the durability of concrete structures but also for their role in reducing the consumption of natural resources. This paper explores the impact of traditional SCMs and delves into the potential of innovative materials like calcined clays and recycled construction demolition materials. These emerging alternatives are not only feasible for large-scale construction projects but are also critical in advancing waste recycling and environmental preservation within the sector.

Join Cementitious Materials International Technical and Trade Congress in Casablanca on April 18 and 19 and learn about decarbonization strategies and circular economy integration from LafargeHolcim’s Morocco Innovation Manager, Mohammed Elhaddad.
