Taiwan Transport & Storage Corporation (TTS), a subsidiary of Taiwan Cement Corporation (TCC), has partnered with Volvo to introduce electric tractor trucks for cement transportation, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan’s green transportation initiatives. The “Low-Carbon EV Green Transportation Launch Ceremony” highlighted TCC’s pioneering role as the first company in Taiwan to utilize electric tractor trucks for cement product transportation, achieving a 32% reduction in carbon emissions.
TTS has integrated 26-ton electric trucks and 43-ton electric tractor trucks, making it the logistics company with the largest variety of electric vehicles in Taiwan. This initiative is part of TTS’s commitment to reducing Scope 3 carbon emissions across supply chains in the semiconductor, retail, and manufacturing industries, as well as lowering emissions in Taiwan’s road transportation sector, which accounts for 12.8% of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions.
Key figures such as Kung-Yi Koo, Chairman of TTS, Roman Cheng, President of TCC, Johan Selvén, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Volvo Trucks, and Te-Wang Tong, CEO of Swire Motors Group, attended the ceremony. The new 43-ton Volvo electric tractor truck, with a maximum range of 300 km and a battery capacity of up to 540 kWh, was showcased. This truck, equipped with a 250kW DC charger, can be fully charged in just 2.5 hours, offering the highest cost-performance ratio in Taiwan.
Kung-Yi Koo emphasized TTS’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions through the introduction of electric vehicles, achieving significant reductions in the transportation sector. Roman Cheng highlighted TCC’s broader use of electric mining trucks in China and the collaboration with TTS to establish integrated charging and storage stations. Johan Selvén expressed excitement about bringing Volvo’s leading electric truck technology to Taiwan.
TTS’s introduction of electric tractor trucks is a strategic move to meet international ESG evaluation criteria for Scope 3 net-zero carbon emissions. The versatile electric tractor heads can be used with various semi-trailers, supporting a wide range of industries and products. This initiative not only supports TCC’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of its low-carbon cement products but also enhances the overall efficiency and sustainability of Taiwan’s transportation infrastructure.
