Educated as a mechanical and process engineer from Technical University Aachen (Germany), Matthias has gathered experience of 30 years in the cement industry. He started his work at KHD Humboldt Wedag as a process engineer, worked at all levels and led all technical departments throughout his tenure. In 2008 he founded the company aixergee, which is specialized to provide CFD-based consultancy for the cement industry. He also worked as Technical Director for Loesche GmbH, Germany for 8 years before he was called into the Management Board of KHD Humboldt Wedag AG in 2020.
Matthias focusses his work on the development of efficient machines and processes for the manufacture of cement. This includes the development, adaptation and introduction of technological innovations in the fields of process engineering & optimization, machine design, combustion of alternative fuels, emissions reduction, automation & controls and machine learning. He is a vivid communicator and active networker in the cement community and considers the decarbonization of the cement industry to be the ultimate but feasible challenge for the cement industry.
