Heidelberg Materials reported a strong third quarter, with revenue up 10% and operating result up 9%, driven by a solid performance in Europe and continued growth in North America.
Key figures
- Revenue: €6,413 million, up 10% from €5,807 million a year earlier (an increase of €606 million)
- Result from current operations (RCO): €1,281 million, up 9% from €1,179 million (an increase of €103 million)
Management comments
Chairman of the Managing Board Dr Dominik von Achten said the momentum that emerged in the second quarter picked up further in the third. He pointed to Europe and North America as the standout regions and credited the result to disciplined cost and price management, productivity gains and a continuing recovery in demand. He thanked employees worldwide for their efforts in a difficult environment.
Savings programme extended
The company expects to beat the €500 million savings target of its Transformation Accelerator Initiative, launched in November 2024, by the end of this year. Rather than wrap up the programme, Heidelberg Materials will extend it, aiming for a further €300 million in savings, split roughly equally between 2027 and 2028.
The extension targets operational excellence and structural changes, particularly in Europe. It aims to offset cost inflation and improve margins through greater technical efficiency. Because some markets remain weak, the clinker and cement network in Europe is a priority, as is a shift toward low-carbon products with less clinker. As part of this, the company announced on 16 September that it would close its Ranville site in France.
Acquisitions expand the portfolio
- NCC Industry (Sweden and Norway): On 7 October 2026, Heidelberg Materials signed an agreement to acquire the aggregates and asphalt operations of NCC AB’s Industry business area in Sweden and Norway. The Stockholm-based unit runs 106 aggregates sites and 44 hot-mix asphalt plants.
- Maas Group construction materials (Australia): Completed on 1 October 2026. The deal brings 43 quarries holding more than 350 million tonnes of reserves, 22 ready-mixed concrete plants, five asphalt operations and a recycling site.
- Cementos Inka (Peru): The purchase of a 70% stake, announced in early September, was also completed on 1 October 2026. The asset-light deal adds two grinding plants and two ready-mixed concrete plants to the company’s global network.
Progress on decarbonisation
Construction of the carbon capture project at Padeswood in North Wales, UK, is moving ahead well. Work on the main foundation has started, and the first large plant sections are due on site from April 2027. The facility is designed to capture about 95% of the existing cement plant’s CO₂ emissions, roughly 800,000 tonnes a year, for permanent storage.
In July 2026, Heidelberg Materials and three other European cement producers opened the world’s first research and development facility for carbon capture using the pure oxyfuel process, in Mergelstetten, Germany. The facility produced its first clinker at the end of May, and in July it captured its first high-purity CO₂, in the form of dry ice.
Share buyback completed
The third and final tranche of the share buyback programme was completed on 1 October 2026, at a value of about €448 million. This concludes the €1.2 billion programme announced on 21 February 2024, which ran as planned.
