Real decarbonization rarely looks like a headline. It looks like a refractory lining engineered to cut kiln heat loss, or 300 cubic yards of concrete poured into a data center with 20% less clinker, or someone showing up at UN panels for years until “net-zero cement” stopped sounding like a contradiction.
The two categories are open for public vote right now for the CarbonZero 2026 Award held at the annual global conference and exhibition Industry Link organizes in Brussels on October 27-29.
Decarbonization Leadership Award:
🔹 Eng. Shoeil Jarallah Al Ayed (Riyadh Cement Company) — a roadmap that’s already cut emission intensity from 0.820 to 0.773 tCO₂e/t cement, on track for 0.588 by 2030
🔹 Eng. Omar Ghaly (Egyptian Carbon Center) — built regional carbon-accounting capability from scratch, training 83 professionals across 4 countries
🔹 Dr. Hans-Jürgen Klischat (Refratechnik Cement GmbH) — turned kiln refractory linings into a capex-free decarbonization lever, now installed in 70+ countries
🔹 Mahendra Singhi (Dalmia Bharat Limited) — over a decade pushing the global cement sector toward unified net-zero commitments
Industrial Decarbonization Project of the Year:
🔹 cyment Austria GmbH — a drop-in SCM hitting 26 kg CO₂/ton, deployed across 4 countries with zero plant retrofits
🔹 Limak Cement — LC3-BAC technology combining calcined clay and boron-activated clinker for a 43.3% CO₂ cut vs. conventional CEM I
🔹 Prometheus Materials — ProZERO cement replacement deployed at hyperscaler-data-center scale, 45% lower global warming potential on the Bauxite 2 project
Very different paths, same underlying thing: people and teams who decided “hard-to-abate” wasn’t a reason to wait.
Public voting is open now until October 21 — one vote per person, verified by email.
