The industry’s leading professionals will aim to answer crucial questions at CarbonZero Global Conference on November 10-11 in Lisbon. The global capacity of cement production reached an estimated 4.4 billion tonnes in 2021, and it is predicted to grow moderately by 2030.
CO2 is mostly emitted by the reactions involved in clinker production, including fuel combustion. Matthias Mersmann, CTO KHD Humboldt Wedag International AG will outline some interesting options to use different alternative fuels and raw materials and describe the necessary process and equipment adaptations for the most effective decarbonizing of the cement industry.
Educated as a Mechanical and Process Engineer from Technical University Aachen (Germany), Mr. Mersmann has gathered experience of 30 years in the cement industry. Among diverse technical experiences he worked as Technical Director for Loesche GmbH, Germany for 8 years before he was called into the Management Board of KHD Humboldt Wedag AG in 2020.
Matthias Mersmann, CTO KHD Humboldt Wedag International AG: “There is no future without cement and there will be no cement without decarbonization! Turning this challenge into opportunities requires cooperation and communication beyond our usual routines. I appreciate Industry Link’s initiative to provide the platform to meet and discuss with experts from our industry.”
Olga Mititelu, Communication Specialist, Industry Link: “One of the highest carbon dioxide (CO2) sources is the production of cement, an essential binding material we can hardly do without. Our common interest at CarbonZero: Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials Global Conference and Exhibition is to find the most suitable solutions for decarbonizing the cement and construction industry. We are welcoming Mr. Mersmann to our one-of-a-kind forum in Lisbon!”
