Tata Steel, India ordered a SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer for quality monitoring of its base mix in the sinter plant. SpectraFlow is already installed in the cement, iron ore, gold, platinum, copper, potash, bauxite, and recycling industries while expanding the applications continuously within the individual industries and into new fields. This will be the first Crossbelt installation in the Indian steel industry and the tenth in global Iron ore mining/steel industries.
Tata group was founded in 1868, headquartered in India, and is a global business conglomerate, operating in over 100 countries. Tata Steel was established in India as Asia’s first integrated private steel company in 1907. Tata Steel, with an annual crude steel capacity of 34 million tonnes per annum (MnTPA), is one of the world’s most geographically diversified steel producers. Indian operations are nearly 25 MnTPA and with fully integrated plants from captive mines to manufacturing and marketing of finished products, Tata steel is one of the lowest-cost producers of steel.
The SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer is an online analyzer to be able to measure bulk materials on belt conveyors at a very high frequency. The base mix is prepared in the Raw Material Blending Bed (RMBB) and contains Iron ore fines, fluxes, solid fuel, plant revert material, and return fines. Based on these accurate, highly frequent results the base mix feed to the sinter kiln can be monitored and the addition of trimming material can be controlled.
By using SpectraFlow an optimization of the sinter mix will be achieved.
Summarized benefits are:
– No need of sampling. Sampling from conveyor belts is unrepresentative and slow for process optimization. Additionally, sampling is very work intensive regarding operation and maintenance.
– The analyzer will deliver accurate results of the base mix quality. Beside the main constituents content moisture is also measured.
– Due to high frequent measurements further control strategies can be implemented.
This SpectraFlow order is the 18th order for the global minerals industry and the 3rd analyzer in India. This order raises the installed based in India to 3 analyzers (2 Crossbelt, 1 Airslide) and worldwide to over 66analyzers (38 Crossbelt & 28 Airslide).
SpectraFlow Analytics Ltd. Switzerland are the experts in providing online analysis for the cement and minerals industry without any radioactive sources nor neutron generators. The NIR technology used for the SpectraFlow Analyzers is not requiring any permits or licenses and there are no restrictions in buying, importing or maintaining the analyzers. This results in very low operating costs and high availability of the analyzers combined with highly accurate measurement results.
