Reviewing the majority of steps towards a CO2 reduction in cement production, a strong focus is on increasing alternative, possibly secondary raw materials or fuels. This is also a direct consequence of the target to reduce the clinker input factor and shift to cement types using more alternative materials.
These materials often come from a prior use or processing steps and often no have stable supply (so far) and highly variating composition and quality.
Allowing for flexibility in the selection of alternative materials and fuels whilst keeping the production at a stable and qualitative level, requires real time transparency about the composition of the materials. Online bulk material analysis, if on solids or powder products can provide the necessary information to adjust material mix or throughput in real time. SpectraFlow’s near infra-red technology can provide analysis on organics (plastic waste) as well as minerals (slag, waste building materials, fly ash, calcined clay, …) and moisture in one analyzer. Use cases shall demonstrate how this online analyzer technology can increase the use of alternative materials and with this being an integra support to to reducing the carbon footprint of the industry.
Petra Muehlen, CEO SpectraFlow Analytics: “Reducing the carbon footprint in the Cement Industry today is the main challenge for all players involved. It is not a challenge for the individual plant or group but one that needs to be achieved across organizations and country limits. Finding a platform to discuss the efficiency of approaches and actions taken and planed and tools used in a group of decision makers brings a real value to this challenge. SpectraFlow has already participated in the first event 2022 and we found it insightful in understanding the various approaches taken by the industries main players and how these approaches can be supported.”
