Qassim Cement Company has awarded a $298 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to China’s Sinoma International Engineering Company for the development of a fourth cement production line at its plant in Buraydah, Saudi Arabia.
The new line, designed with a capacity of 10,000 tonnes per day, will be built using the latest cement industry technologies. According to the company’s statement to the Saudi stock exchange (Tadawul), the project is expected to significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce production costs once commercial operations commence. The construction is scheduled for completion within two years.
Chief Executive Officer Eng. Omar Al Omar stated that the initiative aims to replace older, less efficient lines with a modern, advanced facility. “This project aligns with the Kingdom’s objectives of enhancing energy efficiency and promoting environmental sustainability,” he said, noting that the development will also optimize the use of existing infrastructure.
Al Omar emphasized that the investment forms a key part of Qassim Cement’s sustainable growth strategy, which is centered on maximizing shareholder value, meeting domestic market demand, and diversifying product offerings in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
In a separate development, Qassim Cement also awarded Sinoma a $12 million EPC contract under the Kingdom’s Liquid Fuel Displacement Program (LDP). The project involves converting the Buraydah plant’s existing production lines from crude oil to natural gas, with completion expected within 15 months.
“This conversion will raise fuel efficiency and support environmental sustainability by reducing reliance on crude oil,” Al Omar added, underlining its contribution to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 targets.
The company confirmed that both projects are expected to deliver long-term operational efficiencies and cost savings.
