Recent Progress and Future Needs to Achieve Carbon Neutrality in Cement will be presented by Dr. Paul Tennis, Senior Director, Research and Product Standards, Portland Cement Association (PCA), at the upcoming Cementitious Materials International Congress Americas (April 2-3, Kimpton Sylvan Hotel, Atlanta, USA).
In 2021, PCA published its Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality which involves the entire value chain of concrete construction, starting at the cement plant and extending through the entire life cycle of the built environment to incorporate the circular economy. This presentation will briefly review the value chain (the production of clinker, the manufacture and shipment of cement, the manufacture of concrete, the construction of the built environment, and the capture of carbon dioxide using concrete as a carbon sink) but will focus on the specific targets, timelines, and technologies related to clinker and cement, including recent US developments and future needs.
