Operational Brilliance and Innovative Strategies to Recruit and Retain Women in the Concrete Industry

New speakers announced for Women in CemCo Americas 2026 (Hilton Anatole Hotel, Dallas, March 12-13)! Get your spot now as seating is limited and join a transformative experience that is more than a conference, more than a training and more than what you can imagine in terms of skills building.

Lost in Translation: Operations vs. Executive Speak by Anne M. Ellis, P.E., Hon.M.ACI, Dist.M.ASCE, F.ICT, NAC

You’re fluent in process, but does your message land in the boardroom? Too often, operational brilliance gets buried in the weeds—while execs tune in to vision, velocity, and value. This session is your decoder ring: learn when to zoom in, when to zoom out, and how to make your voice resonate from the jobsite to the C-suite.

Anne began her career as a structural engineer, later working in the concrete and cement  industry before rising to executive leadership at a global infrastructure company with 100,000 employees across 154 countries. Today, she is CEO of Ellis Global, advising clients  in the engineering and construction industry on growth and innovation, while also serving  on corporate boards and as a strategic advisor to start-ups.

Recognized internationally in the field of concrete, Anne served as president of the American Concrete Institute and co-authored the Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers. Her contributions have earned her numerous honors, including induction into the National Academy of Construction, ASCE Distinguished Member status, and the Construction  Industry Institute’s Carroll H. Dunn Award of Excellence.

Innovative Strategies to Recruit and Retain Women in the Concrete Industry presented by Julia Garbini President, Concrete Advancement Foundation

In order to recruit and retain more women in our industry, we need to take an honest assessment of barriers to entry and gaps in mentorship so that we can identify ways to overcome those obstacles. Julia Garbini will share insights about several innovative programs and tools that are taking a different approach to attracting women to our industry, as well as opportunities presented by leveraging new technology and a cultural shift in the way we do business so that we may grow and inspire the next generation of female leadership.

Julia Garbini is President of the Concrete Advancement Foundation.  In this role, she leads the selection, project management and implementation of the Foundation’s various research and education programs, including the agenda of the Foundation’s largest investment in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Concrete Sustainability Hub (MIT CSHub).  She also spearheads the Foundation’s outreach and communications efforts, as well as oversight of the Foundation’s finances and endowment.

Mrs. Garbini joined the Foundation as in 2004 and has been affiliated with the concrete and construction industries since 1991, including past roles with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and Associated Builders and Contractors.  Prior to joining the industry, she worked on Capitol Hill in the U.S. House of Representatives.
