Svante Technologies Inc., a leading Canadian developer of carbon capture and removal solutions, has received $1,350,000 in funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). The funding will support enhanced testing of Svante’s filter durability for point-source carbon capture, helping advance the technology for industrial applications.
The federal investment was announced by the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, during his visit to Svante’s Centre of Excellence for Carbon Capture and Removal in Burnaby, British Columbia. This initiative is part of a broader government effort to accelerate Canadian-made carbon management technologies.
Founded in 2007, Svante employs nearly 300 people and focuses on manufacturing nanoengineered filters that capture CO₂ from industrial flue gas streams. The company’s solutions are designed for industries such as pulp and paper, cement, steel, and energy.
In its statement, NRCan emphasized the importance of projects like Svante’s in supporting Canada’s ambition to become a clean energy superpower:
“Projects like these support Canada’s ambitions of becoming a clean energy superpower — demonstrating how energy innovation can enhance energy security and unlock the full potential of our workers, businesses and resources. We are moving quickly to advance our position as a global supplier of secure, reliable and low-carbon energy and natural resources.”
Brett Henkel, Svante’s Co-Founder and Senior Vice President, welcomed the funding and highlighted its impact:
“Svante is honoured to be receiving this funding. Our country is well-positioned to become a leader in carbon management as we have the whole value chain here in Canada. Having the Canadian Government support us, through this program and others like the Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit and the Clean Technology Manufacturing Credit, is critical to scale made-in-Canada cleantech exports, create high paying jobs, and grow the Canadian economy.”
Svante continues to be recognized as a top innovator in the clean technology sector, earning a spot on the 2025 Global Cleantech 100 and TIME & Statista’s list of Top Greentech Companies of 2025.
