Huaxin Overseas Development marked a major milestone end of August 2025, by completing the acquisition of an 83.81% stake in Lafarge Africa Plc for USD 773 million, officially becoming the company’s largest shareholder.
Lafarge Africa Plc, a prominent publicly listed enterprise in Nigeria, operates four large-scale cement plants in the country’s core markets, with a combined annual production capacity of 10.6 million tons. Beyond cement, the company is active in concrete, aggregates, and environmental services. Its current market capitalization stands at approximately USD 1.4 billion. Since the acquisition was first announced last year, the deal has enjoyed strong backing from local investors.
Africa remains a cornerstone of Huaxin’s global expansion strategy, with operations in seven countries across the continent. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and largest economy, offers vast resource wealth and significant growth potential. Huaxin views this acquisition as a strategic gateway for its development in West Africa, expanding its footprint and strengthening its brand presence in the region.
Following the takeover, Huaxin plans to leverage its integration expertise, deploy advanced technologies, and implement management best practices to upgrade Lafarge Africa’s facilities. The company aims to improve production efficiency, boost product competitiveness, and actively contribute to Nigeria’s economic and social development.
With this transaction, Huaxin’s global footprint will expand to 14 countries, and its total overseas cement production capacity will surpass 40 million tons — the largest overseas capacity among Chinese cement producers.
