On the 28th of September, Huaxin’s new 2,000-ton-per-day clinker production line in Malawi was successfully ignited, officially entering its trial production phase. The ignition ceremony marked a major milestone for the project, which was completed in a record 11 months.

Once fully commissioned, the plant will expand Huaxin’s cement capacity in Malawi to 800,000 tons per year. Built with sustainability at its core, the facility integrates energy-efficient equipment, low-carbon calcination technology, and a full-process DCS automated control system — creating an intelligent closed-loop process from raw material crushing to packaging of the finished product.

The project, which broke ground on 28 October 2024, is also set to deliver significant socio-economic benefits. It will generate 500 direct jobs and around 3,000 indirect ones, with 90% of positions reserved for local employees to strengthen in-depth localisation.

Despite challenges during construction, the plant was completed ahead of schedule thanks to close collaboration between the factory and EPC teams. The achievement sets a new benchmark for Huaxin’s overseas clinker cement production lines in Africa.

Huaxin’s management emphasised that the successful ignition highlights the company’s progress in its overseas expansion strategy while providing strong momentum for the growth of Malawi’s cement industry. Looking ahead, the company said it will continue to empower the local market with advanced technology and management expertise, positioning the plant as a model of China–Malawi cooperation and reinforcing Huaxin’s ambition to become a world-leading multinational building materials group.
