Holcim has completed its acquisition of Burdett Group, a leading supplier of aggregates, recycled construction and demolition materials and sand in southeast Melbourne, expanding the company’s footprint in one of Australia’s most attractive growth markets.
Burdett Group operates in the metropolitan growth area of southeast Melbourne, a region where demand for construction materials is driven by ongoing urban expansion. The company is a leading regional supplier of aggregates, recycled construction and demolition materials and sand. With the completion of the deal, Holcim strengthens both its aggregates business and its circular construction activities in Australia.
Khaled El Dokani, Region Head Asia, Middle East & Africa at Holcim, said the acquisition is an excellent fit with the company’s NextGen Growth 2030 strategy, which focuses on investing in the most attractive markets. He highlighted three strengths of Burdett: its significant circular construction expertise, its base in Melbourne’s metropolitan growth area, and its position as a leading regional supplier of aggregates and other raw materials. El Dokani also welcomed Burdett’s more than 120 employees to the Holcim family and said he looks forward to the next chapter of growth together.
Established in 1972, Burdett Group brings more than 50 years of experience across the state of Victoria. The company serves customers across the built environment, from infrastructure and industry to buildings, giving Holcim a broad customer base in the region.
The acquisition will help advance a key NextGen Growth 2030 target: recycling more than 20 million tons of construction and demolition materials globally each year by 2030. Holcim aims to reach this goal through ECOCycle®, its proprietary circular technology.
Construction and demolition waste is one of the largest waste streams in the built environment. By combining a strong aggregates position with recycling capabilities in a growing metropolitan market, Holcim is positioning itself to serve demand for both primary and recycled materials in Australia.
