Cemex announced the winners of its Cemex Building Award 2023 at a ceremony in Mexico City attended by leading architects, designers, engineers, and construction industry professionals from around the world.
The contest, which since 1991 has recognized the best construction projects in Mexico and the world, received 278 national entries for this edition and a wide variety of projects from 14 different countries.
A panel of prestigious architects selected the winners from 23 finalist projects in the National Edition and 31 finalist projects in the International Edition.

The panel of Judges was comprised of 16 renowned architects and engineers from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, the Dominican Republic, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, and Argentina. With this year’s contest theme, “Shaping the future,” Cemex sought to promote creativity, encourage the development of construction best practices, and highlight the innovations that will become the new industry standards.

The Lorenzo H. Zambrano Prize 2023, which recognizes the career of an outstanding architect or engineer whose work is significant and memorable in Mexico and at an international level, was also awarded during the ceremony.
This year, the award was given to Architect Enrique Norten for his work designing social housing and urban renewal projects. His work has garnered several recognitions, including the gold medal at the Miami Architecture Bienal 2004, the National Arts and Literature Mexico award in 2010, and the Mies van der Rohe Latin America Architecture prize in 2012.
For more than 17 years, Cemex has fostered the development of recently graduated young architects whose academic and professional work demonstrates extraordinary potential through the Architect Marcelo Zambrano Scholarship.
At the event, the 2023 Scholarship was granted to Architect Jorge González Yañez, a graduate of Tecnológico de Monterrey Guadalajara Campus who will commence postgraduate studies in Landscape Architecture Advanced Placement at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
The Cemex Building Award recognizes the talent and vision of architects and engineers who envision sustainable buildings for the benefit of present and future generations. Celebrated since 1991, the Cemex Building Award has consolidated its position as one of the most renowned competitions in architecture and construction.
