Furno Materials, a leader in sustainable and modular cement production, has announced a strategic agreement with Maschmeyer Concrete Company of Florida, a leading ready-mix concrete provider, to explore the development of a new local cement supply chain in Florida. The collaboration focuses on converting Maschmeyer’s waste concrete into domestically produced, high-performance cement, marking a shift in how cement is sourced and manufactured in the United States.
Under this agreement, 50,000 tons per year of production capacity have been committed to Furno’s expanding portfolio, increasing total committed capacity to 295,000 tons annually across both announced and unannounced projects.
Local Production and a New Model for Ready-Mix Producers
The partnership represents a key step in Furno’s effort to decentralize and decarbonize the cement industry. Furno will serve as the technology provider, while Maschmeyer, a family-owned company, will be positioned to become a cement producer itself, gaining greater control over its supply chain.
At the center of the collaboration is the planned use of Furno’s proprietary kiln technology to upcycle Maschmeyer’s approximately 90,000 tons of annual waste concrete into usable cement.
Onshoring Cement Manufacturing
Maschmeyer has signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase Furno’s compact, modular reactors for the construction and operation of mini cement plants. The first facility is expected to produce around 50,000 tons of high-quality cement per year, with interest in future expansion. The initiative supports the onshoring of cement production in the U.S. and aims to reduce dependence on international supply chains.
“This partnership with Maschmeyer is about equipping the ready-mix industry with the tools to shape its own future,” said Gurinder Nagra, CEO of Furno Materials. He emphasized the ability of established, multi-generational businesses to strengthen their supply chains by converting waste into essential building materials, noting growing market traction and increased interest in decentralized cement production models.
Next Steps Toward Deployment
Furno and Maschmeyer are currently conducting site analysis and a feasibility study for the Florida project. The sale of Furno’s commercial reactors to Maschmeyer is dependent on the successful deployment of Furno’s first commercial-scale reactor in Chicago, developed in partnership with Ozinga, one of the largest ready-mix producers in the United States.
The agreement with Maschmeyer marks the second publicly announced partnership between Furno and a major ready-mix customer in the past year, highlighting increasing demand for sustainable, localized cement solutions. Additional partnerships, not yet announced, continue to broaden Furno’s market presence and support the adoption of its technology.
